Day 6 — Workspaces, automatic autofill, and a public development journal

Sill adds named tab workspaces, refines automatic autofill and Glide, and opens its development process to readers.

Shipped before this entry

Beta15 replaced the network transport used for protection-list updates after a reported main-process assertion. Existing filters remain available if a refresh fails. Beta16 added viewport context tools and local chrome artwork. Beta17 introduced preferred automatic autofill and the form-anchored saved-choice dropdown, and clipped Glide throughout reveal and retreat.

New in beta18

Sill Workspaces groups tabs into named spaces, restores each space’s last active tab, and supports moving tabs and merging spaces. Safe tabs in an inactive workspace sleep. Forms, editors, uploads, active media and uncertain pages stay in memory to preserve ongoing work. Workspace names and tab addresses restore after restart; unsaved page contents are not written to disk.

Eight illustrated themes

Tiger, Circuit Board, Tire Tread and Water Ripples join Contour, Blueprint, Aurora and Constellation. These eight coordinated image themes use transparent artwork over their palette colors, with separate top, left and right canvases. The original twenty plain themes remain available.

Building in public

Meet Sill introduces the current browser and links to this development journal. Dated entries, RSS and confirmed email subscriptions make progress easier to follow. Earlier entries are retrospective summaries based on release and test records.

Still to resolve

Microsoft signing verification remains pending. A reported beta16 startup popup was not reproduced in a fresh beta17 launch; its cause is unconfirmed. Windows 10 and broader platform validation remain launch work. The eight initial image themes are included in beta18.

Beta19 follow-up

A report exposed a workspace-dialog layering issue: the modal dimmed the toolbar while the native webpage remained above it. The fix expands and raises the shell while the manager is open and restores the previous page or menu when closed. Five integration checks cover the actual shortcut and all Glide edges. A separate Windows history-file sharing error led to unique atomic temporary names, bounded lock retries and deferred background history saving. Obsolete extracted beta8–beta17 builds were removed locally; current builds and user profiles were retained. Older ZIP archives remain downloadable from the official site; the latest local rollback archive was kept.
