History, bookmarks and downloads

Import browsing history and manage transferred files.

Reviewed for 0.1.0-beta.33 · Updated October 14, 2026

Import browsing history

Open Menu → History & bookmarks. Choose a detected browser profile or import a Chromium History database, Firefox places.sqlite or a supported JSON export. Close the source browser if its database is locked. Sill searches the latest 20,000 unique web addresses in its history store.

Keep a reference

Use bookmarks for saved pages, or keep project-specific references on the workspace shelf in Desk. Pin a tab when you want it to remain close to that workspace.

Manage downloads

Open Downloads or press Ctrl+J. Review live progress, pause or cancel an active transfer, resume when the server supports it, or retry an interrupted download. Search the list to find a recent file, then use Open file or Show in folder.

Download Desk

Select visible files to pause, resume, pin, unpin or check multiple records together. Bulk actions operate only on selected records in the current view; ineligible transfers are skipped. Cancel selected asks for confirmation. Assign selected records to an existing workspace, including older records that have no captured project. File-type filters narrow the list.

Unsaved note and digest edits are retained while filters and live transfer updates refresh the manager. Choose Save notes or Save expected digest to update local history; these editor drafts are not recovered after closing Sill.

New downloads capture their originating workspace and source page when available. Filter by project or transfer state, search notes and source information, sort by name or size, and pin important records. Expand Notes & file checks to save a local note or compare the file with a publisher’s SHA-256 digest. The first fingerprint becomes the saved baseline; later comparisons report changed content. Checks are local and do not certify safety.

Export visible project manifest creates a JSON inventory of the filtered records. It excludes notes, local paths and URL paths, queries and fragments. Explore Download Desk.

Clear finished history

Removing a download record keeps the file on disk. Pinned records survive history cleanup; unpin before removing one. A history-save warning means the latest records may not survive restart. Resolve disk space or access and choose Retry history save. Active downloads continue while you browse. Downloads interrupted in a previous browser session can be retried; resume depends on the server.
